Here is a fatal flaw in this argument, and not the only one: what about an American who can trace his ancestry back 400 years in this country but who DOESN’T fully agree with “the creed of the American founding,” however Vivek defines it? Is he less American than a Somali who came here legally 5 seconds ago and claims to agree with that creed? By this logic, the Somali is the more authentic American. In fact we could replace every American in the country with 300 million Africans who “subscribe to the creed” and this would still be America in every sense of the term. That’s the logical implication, and it’s nonsense. And we all know it.
