I had a fascinating conversation with Claude Opus about connections between the principle of least action in classical mechanics, generalized coordinates, Lie groups, and issues like gimbal lock in robot arms. I then wondered idly how many people in the world could answer those questions (Opus did a great job of this btw), so I then asked it to systematically estimate this number. It guessed just 2,500 people in the world, or ~0.00003% of the global population (1 in 3 million). Even if this is off by 10x, it’s still an extraordinarily low number. And it shows how, in some ways, ASI is already here in terms of interdisciplinary STEM pedagogy.
